I hate groupwork! No, possibly the word Hate is too mild:
Loathe Despise Detest Abhor Bleecchhhh!!!
Just for a little clarification - I'm referring to the stuff you have to do at Uni, which in no way resembles teamwork in the workplace.
I have 4 assignments due in the next 7 days. 3 of them are group assignments. Do you think I can find my groups in the ether?
Gonna go have a major spack attack & do all the work myself >:-( |

Group work can be very rewarding until you run into those slackers who wait for others to do the work so that they can get the credit. There oughta be a law!

I've always been a very independent learner, and fortunately my undergrad studies involved minimal group work. (That's because the assessments were, by and large, comprised of research essays.) However, the "paradigm shift" in education has tended to be towards more collaboration and group work, so expect lots more of it.
The problem you describe is referred to by the experts as "social loafing." And I suspect what your instructor hasn't done is structure the group assignment so that each individual student can be assessed individually on his/her contribution to the finished product.
