One for my dad |
Singer Gene Pitney died today in Wales aged 65.
One of my childhood memories is my dad singing 'The man who shot Liberty Valance' - sounded good with the radio volume up :-)
Gene was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in 2002.
I don't think he was very rock n roll, but until they build the 'Easy Listening Hall of Fame' I suppose it will have to do.
RIP Gene. |

I thought he'd passed ages ago. But to go from a great gig, back to your hotel room & die - thats gotta be the way to go, having just finished something you love.
I didn't realise how many songe I knew either & they are still playing them on every easy listening station.... Only 24hrs to Tulsa :-)

He was so young. How does this happen? What catches up with us? the sound of his voice was unique. Brought back memories of my brother playing his radio loud in the next room all those many years ago.
Thanks for the tribute. Peace at last for Gene.

My favorite's always been Town without Pity, although I think I'd heard other songs of his beforehand.
What a great voice.

My favourite is 'Donna Means Heartbreak' - the lyrics are fantastic! Quite fond of 'Maria Elena' too, and his version of 'Answer Me, My Love.' Most of my material of his is on vinyl. Yep, I'm a purist even in that regard. Shoot me. Here's the first one I mentioned anyway!
