Valium for the Soul

Come with me on a journey through uncharted territory...

Quotes:
How can a woman be expected to be happy with a man who insists on treating her as if she were a perfectly normal human being. - Oscar Wilde
Quotes:
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. - Albert Einstein
Quotes:
Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge. - Mark Twain
Quotes:
I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him. - Mark Twain
Quotes:
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. - Albert Einstein

Justice is done
2 pakastani men (MSK & MAK) have today been sentenced to 19 & 28 years in Gaol for the gang rape of women in Sydney.

Much to the disgust of many, these two 'men' claimed that their strict moral and cultural upbringing meant that they did not know that their actions were wrong.

This is the scary & truly horrific part - that in their culture, it is 'ok' to abuse women who venture out without the protection of male relatives.

Fortunately Justice Peter Hidden denied their claim and has put them behind bars for a significant period of time.

Perhaps Australia needs to follow the Dutch model of providing a video to potential immigrants showing our culture & way of life, with the option to go elsewhere if they cannot live within our society.

they shouldn't be locked up. they should be castrated with rusty spoons and forcefed their own balls. THEN lock them up, or electrocute them , i don't care.

Normally I like to preach cultural sensitivity, but I don't have much pity for them even if their society does have so little regard for women. Hopefully somebody told them that, in prison, they'll be the women.

But the dutch immigration video is a good idea. I wonder how the US video would be. Probably loads of violence and a shot of a bunch of people freaking out over a nipple.

I think the video is a great idea. And I liked Lime's idea re their punishment ;)

Here's what troubles me: Although that sort of stuff is acceptable in their culture, where's the humanity? Isn't there any human element that says, ok, I'm allowed to do this but it is still wrong!

It is a relief isn't it that the justice system worked this time round? I think leaning them inside to learn a bit about Australian ways is a good idea. No need to steep down to their level with violence and inhumanity.
I like the idea of a video about how to actually treat PEOPLE not only women. It is definite proof that it is culture that leads us to behaviour not 'innate' humanity.

    Good one Blue!
